CHAFER GRUBS![]() Chafer grubs are a very destructive insect which eat the roots of turf, mainly during August and September. They can be found in areas such as golf courses, sports pitches, commercial and residential lawns and amenity turf.
Larvae have distinctive grey ends to their abdomens and brown heads. Some species remain as larvae for up to three years. Chafers remain below ground over winter as pupae and the adults emerge in the Spring, usually laying their eggs over a two week period during early Summer. Often turf damage is made worse by foxes, magpies and badgers which pull up the turf looking for a good meal. The only product available to treat these insects is Merit Turf, it is a granular insecticide specifically designed to target chafer grubs and leatherjackets. The best time to apply it is when you see the beetle eggs in the soil, or as a curative treatment up to the second growth stage. Alternatively, treatments can be carried out when damage to turf is seen. Please contact us if you would like to speak to a representative. |
