BROWN TAIL MOTH![]() Brown-tail moth [Euproctis chrysorrhoea] is regularly found feeding in bramble and hawthorn shrubs. Its life cycle begins in late Summer when the caterpillars are born and then they build their white web-like nests ready to hibernate for the winter. In May and June the caterpillars emerge from hibernation for a few weeks to feed, they can cause widespread damage if left to their own devices. Next, they pupate and enter their chrysalis stage before eventually becoming a fully-fledged brown tail moth.
If the hairs on the moth’s body break off and make contact with skin, it can cause: rashes, skin irritation, headaches and breathing difficulties. For these reasons, brown tail moth should be handled by a professional who has experience with these types of insects. This is something our Weed Management operators have years of!
